Swim Team Update - Week 3

    Good Evening Parents!

It's hard to believe we are heading into our 3rd week of swim team practices. This week we will be gearing up for our first meet of the season. Please make it a point to come to as many practices as possible as we prepare for our first home meet against Ridgetop on Sunday, June 11th at 3 p.m. (Warm-ups will begin at 2 p.m.). The theme for our first meet is GREEN & BLUE.  A detailed email about our first meet will go out either Tuesday or Wednesday. The coaches have asked that swimmers use the restroom before practices so they can better utilize their time at practices.

In the meantime, we need the following from you:

    1. Go online to declare if you are coming to the meet. Declarations must be made by 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 6th. After this time, we will close the meet.  Instructions were sent out last week on how to do this. Please let us know even if you won't be able to attend. If you do not make a declaration, the coaches will assume you are not attending the meet. You may go our Gator website to make your declaration https://avalongators.swimtopia.com/

    2. Fill out your JRAC Waiver. All swimmers must have a waiver on file before you are allowed to swim in a meet. Failure to do so may result in a penalty for Avalon. You may use the following link to fill out your waiver. https://jrac2016waiver.formstack.com/forms/2023wai...

    3. A big thanks to everyone who signed up to train for a special position. We cannot run these meets without you and we appreciate your willingness to fill these positions. This week there are A LOT of training clinics being held, both virtual and in-person. I don't believe reminder emails are going to be sent out so please make sure you have your calendars marked. The training schedules can be found using the following link:

    4. Parent Meeting (Tuesday, June 5th @ 5 p.m.) - We will hold a brief parent meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5th at the pool to go over any questions you may have about swim team. We will go over what to expect at our first meet. We highly encourage newer parents to attend this meeting.

    5. JRAC Transfers - If you are new to Avalon this year, but swam at another JRAC Club, please let us know which club you came from as soon as possible! We will need to transfer your child's records over from your previous club.

I will be handing out personalized caps and swimsuits that were ordered online this week. If you ordered a suit after Wednesday of last week, please let me know and I will follow up with the Virginia Swim Shop so we can get those to you before our first meet.

One quick note about swimwear this year (more relevant to older swimmers). JRAC has BANNED ALL TIE-BACK SUITS (i.e. Jolyn tie-backs) at meets this year. If a swimmer shows up to a meet with a tie-back suit, they will immediately be asked to change into appropriate swimwear.

We are looking forward to our first meet this season. If there are questions about anything, please reach out to either Carrie or myself. GO GATORS!!
