First Week of Practice!
May 20th

Thanks to everyone who came to our first swim practice today!! Very sorry for any miscommunication on weather and pool temp issues. Stick with us as we figure out the best communication and will be striving to improve on it! Please always come prepared to swim OR be on the pool deck. Coaches will make the call at practice if it is too cold to swim. If your child cannot swim (ear infection, broken arm, forgotten suit, cold weather) they can still come to practice to learn the drills we are doing and be part of the team from the deck :)
This week please be patient as we learn your child's skill level and names. *Helpful tip: write your child's name on their dry cap with Sharpie to 1. not misplace your cap and 2. help us learn names!
We are starting with basics and the foundations of freestyle this week, and will add to it as we go on. Especially for 11 and older swimmers, expect to start with drills and build to more endurance practices. All levels are coming together, and we are concerned more with learning proper technique than the speed of swimming at the beginning.
If you have questions, see Lori between practices, but please know the coaches are focusing on swimmers in the water during practices, but will be available to talk after the session is over.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome to Avalon and the support from all of the parents!! We could not have a swim team without all of your hours spent taxi driving to practice, rushed meals and packing of the swim bag (towel, suit, cap, goggles, snack, water bottle). I welcome all of your suggestions, questions and concerns! As always, please E-mail me with ways to improve our team! We would love to have more team events this year, ideas and volunteers to help plan are welcome!
See you this week at the pool!
-Coach Lori
