Swim Practice This Week and Rained Out App

    Avalon Swim Families,

I am excited to be back as your head swim coach this summer along with the assistant coaches; Taryn Blake, Martha Anne and Cristina Muncy. We look forward to a great season again along with a lot of fun and welcoming some new families to the team. I want to start the season off on a good note. The weather this spring and especially this May has not been very warm and has also been very rainy. We, the coaches and the Aquatic Chairs, have decided to cancel practice Monday May 23 which would actually be the first day of practice due to the inclement weather we are suppose to get Monday but also because the weather has not been warm enough to warm the pool water temperature. We will begin practice on Tuesday for mites, midgets, junior, intermediates and seniors at the respective times previously posted on the website. Tuesday will be a dryland day of training exercises and games as well as a coaches and parents meet and greet and meeting to discuss season expectations. Wednesday we will attempt to get in the water as the temperature is suppose to get back into the 80's by Wednesday. Parents are encouraged to use their own discretion on bringing swimmers to practice. The pool will still be cold I am sure so we totally understand if you want to hold off on any swimmer waiting  a few days to get in the pool. We want this to be a positive experience for all swimmers and swimming in cold water is just the opposite of that; take it from me whom has been in plenty of cold pools.

We will start mini-mite practice the following week after the Memorial Day holiday; so Tuesday May 31 at 3:45pm. Practices will be back on normal schedule Tuesday May 31. Mini mites will be Tuesday through Thursday and all other practices will be normal times that week Tuesday through Friday as there is no practice Monday May 30 as it is Memorial Day.

I am sorry for the long winded e-mail but I want to keep all swimmers safe and warm and a positive experience for all. So if there are any questions please let us know at practice on Tuesday. Also, please check out the rained out app for more alerts and updates from the coaches. The rained out app information is posted below from Amanda Belding in an earlier e-mail.

    Thanks,

    Coach Jason

HI everyone. Last summer we used a program called Rained Out to allow us to send messages to swimmers and their families. This helped us send notifications about practice changes, cancellations, and meet delays related to bad weather. We also may send important reminder updates from time to time.

Please sign up using the following link:

    https://www.rainedout.net/team_page.php?a=77b4a03e3c04fd0b9a92

You can select whether you want updates by email or text or both. You will receive a confirmation code that will help guide you through the remainder of the process.

Since the weather has been rather rainy this month, we need to have as many people on board with this program as possible in case we have practice changes next week. We know the water will be cold, and we will try to make the best decision about keeping practices going!

    Thanks for your support!

    Amanda
