General Champs info

We have our last swim meet on Monday. After that the Champs season will begin. I know there is always confusion about how swimmers qualify for Champs and/or get selected for the individual events for Champs. Please read the info below. We will also send out information about who is selected for Champs, practice schedules, volunteer requirements, etc soon after the Ridgetop meet. Thanks!

    FAQS for CHAMPS Meet:

How do I qualify for Champs?

If you notice a “QUA” next to your swimmers Final Time, this means you are QUALIFIED as a Novice swimmer to participate in that particular event at Champs.  Having an “R”, “X” and “XX” also qualifies you to participate.

If I have a Qualifying time, does this mean that I will go to Champs?

Unfortunately, not all qualifying swimmers will attend the Champs meet.  Each member club may enter no more than two swimmers in the Novice Heat, Regular Heat, Heat X and Heat XX of each event.  This means that the coaches will select the two fastest swimmers in each event (2 for the novice division, 2 for R, 2 for X and 2 for XX) based on their availability.

How many events may I swim at Champs?

A total of five events - No more than four individual events plus one relay.

Is there a volunteer requirement for Champs?

YES.  There is a separate volunteer requirement for Champs. Each family is required to complete one volunteer slot (e.g. Timing, Safety Marshall, Runner, Ribbons, Clerk of Course etc.)  UNLESS this is your first year participating in Champs as a family.  More details will be available closer to the meet.

    When is the Champs Meet?

Thursday, Jul 28 - 12:00 AM and Friday, Jul 29, starting at 9am each day

    Where is the Champs Meet?

NOVA – 12207 Gayton Road, Richmond, VA 23238

    Is parking available at NOVA?

Unfortunately, no, in previous years a shuttle service has been available from either Godwin High School or Westcreek to take swimmers and their families to NOVA.
