Urgent Need for Trained Volunteers
It's hard to think about swim meets in the middle of March. But before we know it our Gators will be diving off those starting blocks.
You may not know this, but it takes over 50 volunteers to run a swim meet. Without these volunteers a meet cannot go on. Among the 50, there are a good number of volunteer positions that require a training. These trainings are fast approaching.
This is where you come in. We are in great need of some willing people to be a "trained" volunteer. Many of our past trained volunteers are not returning this season.
Right now we are especially looking for people for Clerk of Course, Strokes and Turns and Head Timer.
What does it take to do one of these positions?
Clerk of Course **:
WHAT? Assigns swimmers to heats and lanes based upon seed times. Seat swimmers in benches to await heats and send to the blocks at appropriate time. Home meets require two people, away meets may require one to assist the home team.
WHY? Sit in the shade!
SKILLS? Organized, have a basic understanding of how meets run
TIME? Whole meet
Strokes and Turns**:
WHAT? Determine if swimmers are performing strokes legally and issues DQ slips.
WHY? Gain a better understanding of the sport
SKILLS? Focused and un-biased
TIME? First OR Second half
Head Timer**:
WHAT? Organize timer supplies and timers before the meet. Oversees all timers and operates back up stopwatches.
WHY? Great view of the meet!
SKILLS? Focused and organized
TIME? First OR Second half
Thanks for considering! It sure does take a village!
Look at your calendars! The training dates that we know of as of this moment are the following:
Clinic training dates
Wednesday 5/24 @ Walton Park
Tuesday 5/30 @ CCV
Sunday 6/4 @ Jefferson Lakeside
Thursday 6/8 - Location TBD and this clinic is only for Referees and Strokes and Turns
Please email us back and let us know if there is a position you would be willing to be trained in.
If we've already spoken with you, do not feel like you have to respond! We know who you are and have already reserved you a spot!!!)
Thanks,
