Mock Meet- This Saturday
Hello Gators!
Our first meet is coming quickly- this Sunday June 11th. It is at home against Three Chopt.
To help those who are new to swimming, or would like some extra guidance or help before Sunday, we will be having a Mock Meet practice on Saturday June 10th at 8 am.
This is geared toward younger kids and their parents who have never been through a swim meet before, but all are welcome. We will be walking through where kids gather when their events are called, how they will move through clerk of course, and then onto the pool deck for their events. We will have the starter set up so we will run a few starts for kids who want the practice. We will mainly be doing freestyle events, but if swimmers who are swimming 50 back or 100 IM for the first time would like the practice, they are more than happy to join. We will be sending out meet entries on Friday.
This is also an opportunity for parents who are volunteering for the first time, or who are volunteering in a new position, to come and ask questions. We want the meet to go as smoothly as possible and want to make sure everyone is comfortable in what to expect, parents and swimmers alike.
After the mock meet, there will be a gator buddies social. You will get to meet your buddy- popsicles provided!
While we are having our mock meet, there will be setup going on for the Brian McCarty Tennis Tournament. The organizers have sent us some information that they wanted us to pass along about parking, etc. Please keep this in mind when you are coming to the pool Saturday morning.
Due to the Brian McCarty tennis tournament, there will be some changes on Saturday. They will start setting up at 7 AM and a parking attendant will help direct cars for parking. Swim team families participating in the Mock Meet should try to start by parking on the far left side of the parking lot (side opposite the tennis courts). The pool will close early at 4 PM to accommodate the tournament reception. Kanawha Recreation Association has graciously offered our members use of their pool from 4-8 PM while our pool is closed. Please be respectful of these times that they have given us. While all slots to play tennis at the tournament have been filled, you can sign up to attend the festivities at Avalon that day.
