Trained Volunteers Needed

    Avalon families, We are in need of parents who are willing to become trained in specific volunteer roles for our upcoming swim season. This summer, many of the trained volunteers who have so graciously run these posts for many years in the past will no longer be volunteering, as they had swimmers graduate. This leaves up with some crucial positions to fill. Don't worry, none of these trained positions are out of your wheel house. They just take a session of JRAC training to learn. Often times, they are fun and give you either a front row seat to the actual meet or one inside in the air conditioning. Please consider being trained this May to help out the gators. Below are brief descriptions of the positions as well as the training dates.

    Head Table

    WHAT? Determine official time for each swimmer, for each event

    WHY? Have access to event results first! Sit in the shade!

    SKILLS? Organized, good with numbers

    TIME? Whole meet

    Strokes and Turns

    WHAT? Determine if swimmers are performing strokes legally and issues DQ slips.

    WHY? Gain a better understanding of the sport

    SKILLS? Focused and un-biased

    TIME? First OR Second half

    Starter**:

    WHAT? Begins each event, working with the timers.

    WHY? Best view of the meet!

    SKILLS? Talk loudly

    TIME? First OR Second half

    Head Timer**:

    WHAT? Organize timer supplies and timers before the meet. Oversees all timers and operates back up stopwatches.

    WHY? Great view of the meet!

    SKILLS? Focused and organized

    TIME? First OR Second half

    Clerk of Course **:

    WHAT? Assigns swimmers to heats and lanes based upon seed times. Seat swimmers in benches to await heats and send to the blocks at appropriate time. Home meets require two people, away meets may require one to assist the home team.

    Referee**:

    WHAT? Oversees the Strokes and Turns officials

    WHY? Gain a better understanding of the sport

    SKILLS? Must have 2 years of Strokes and Turns experience

    TIME? Whole meet
